Republishing of Dick Bruna’s The Apple

Available from The Tate online £4.99

The Apple, Dick Bruna’s first picture book before he created his iconic character Miffy, has been republished by Tate to mark the title’s 60th anniversary this August.

To mark this event, an exhibition of Dick Bruna’s silkscreens is at the Cafe at Foyles Book Shop in Charing Cross Road, London from 6 – 29 August 2013. Entry is free.

I bet that is just gorgeous!

Bruna’s sweet designs are iconic and instantly recognisable. I was delighted to receive a copy of The Apple to review.

The Apple’ tells the story of a rosy red apple who yearns to see the world beyond his tree. With the help of a friendly rooster he finally gets a glimpse into the lives of others. A sweet simple tale totally in line with the sweet simplicity of Bruna’s work. Miffy has been long loved in our home. Children can so easily relate to the bold colours and clear drawings.

Bruna definitely wrote and drew for children rather than to impress adults. I like his style. .
