A home library should be a place of calm, respite and solitude. Picking a comfortable area to sit while reading a book is one of the first things you should consider when setting up your mini library. There are many different types of chairs to choose from when considering which will provide the best support and comfort. These can range anything from luxury antique leather chairs, to more contemporary, modern models.
Once you have chosen a suitable chair for your library, you need to consider other aspects, such as which room or space you are going to base your library in. The size of the space will dictate just how many shelves of books you will have, which in turn will decide how many books you will keep in your library. You should also keep in mind that the conditions in the space will need to be right for storing your books – a humid attic or flood prone cellar is probably not the best spot to choose!

Lighting is also an important consideration for your library. For instance, too much bright, natural light can actually be damaging to books, causing them to fade. Poor lighting, on the other hand, can cause eye-strain and headaches, so it’s definitely a good idea to prioritize on selecting a good reading lamp.
Bookshelves are, of course, another vital aspect of your library. If you are on a budget, it might be tempting to opt for cheaper, flimsy shelves – but remember, if you are going to be storing a lot of heavy hardbacks, you will want something that will support that type of collection. Why not take a look at some more unusual design for bookshelves? After all, this is your own little slice of literary heaven, so make it your own.
And finally, the stars of the show, the books themselves. You may already have a large collection of books, and your library may be the new home for just a select few. If that’s the case, you will need to decide which make the grade and which do not. Will you opt for well thumbed titles, or purchases you are particularly proud of?
